Elefteria Vlavianos

Tiny Bio | Elefteria Vlavianos is a (Gadigal Land ) - Sydney-based artist whose practice explores the intersections of memory, materiality, and psychological space through painting. A key concern in her practice is the question of what a painting and the language of painting might be. Elefteria has a PHD in Painting from the ANU School of Art and Design, she is represented by .MContemporary  and her achievements included being selected for the Bundanoon Artist in Residency Program (2025), being a finalist in the Sulman Prize (2024).

Tiny Statement | Drawing on the idea of subversiveness inherent in the Dada tradition, I have taken the playful approach of deconstructing a series of miniature landscape paintings through the process of perforating their surfaces into confetti.  Once desiccated, I have placed the confetti into two cubes that are etched with the title: This is a painting and This was a painting.  These works point to my interest in what a painting may or may not be and its playful possibilities.
