Allison Beda
Tiny Bio | Experimental humourist filmmaker, Conceptual Sculptor and Dada Gallerist who loves joyful guerilla art interventions, turning difficult life experiences into comedic works of art, and working with what you have.
Tiny Statement | “ FREE CANDY (THIS IS NOT)” was inspired by a guard near the Felix Gonzalez-Torres work Untitled (Portrait of Ross in L.A.) at the Whitney Museum of American Art. He explained the piece was in memory of the artist’s partner Ross , who died. The piece is the weight of Ross in candy. Each visitor could take a piece of candy until it was all gone (like Ross is now gone). The Whitney, however, was constantly replenishing it, twisting the meaning and impression of the work so much that he thought the Whitney should re-title the piece “Free Candy” and that we should take as much as we wanted.
